Thuja. Semperaurea. Thuja x plicatoides 'Semperaurea' Seeds. H 2-4m
Thuja is an evergreen ornament in any garden. This thuja has a spreading, conical crown and yellow-green needles.
Grows in a clump from 6-8 meters and a width of 2-4 meters.
Grows well in urban conditions, shade-tolerant, but also grows well in full light. Tolerates pruning. Can be used for small hedges and color compositions.
Pruning time from late April to July. At the beginning of summer, it is recommended to cut out damaged branches, pour and fertilize with fertilizer intended for coniferous trees. Sensitive to prolonged drought.
Sowing: Thuja seeds are quite easy to germinate and grow. Seeds are best sown in March. Then, by the end of summer, the seedlings will have already taken root and will be able to successfully overwinter,
First, soak the collected seeds in water for 24 hours.
Drain the water, dry the seeds on a napkin, mix with wet sand, put them in a polyethylene bag and seal the end tightly. Place the bag in the refrigerator at 4 °C. It is important that the seeds do not dry out, so check them from time to time (they should be kept moderately moist).
After about eight weeks, the seeds can be sown. It may happen that they start to germinate earlier, without the stratification period ending. In this case, sow them immediately.
Fill a pot or box with acidic peat (pH 3.5), place the seeds on top, then cover them with a layer of substrate a few millimeters thick. During germination, the seeds are kept at room temperature and kept slightly moist. The seeds germinate after 2–3 weeks.
If there is a lot of space in the room, it is better to take a lot of pots and sow the seeds in them as rarely as possible. Then the small seedlings will not need to be picked and they will take root faster. If this is not possible, you can sow in a box and after germination the plants can be planted in pots.
