It is winter-hardy, in our country it can grow up to 25 m tall, in North America – even 40 meters. The tree has a slender upright tree with an ovoid or rounded crown, the trunk is covered with thin, smooth, gray bark, which cracks in old trees.

The oak has a well-developed, deep-growing root system, leaves – deeply divided, thin, shiny, 15–25 cm large, pink when blooming, dark green in summer, but in autumn before falling, young trees are bright red, old trees – rusty brown.

Red oak loves light, but easily tolerates side shade - this means that it can grow among other trees, as long as its foliage is illuminated from above.

Wind-resistant, does not require fertile soil, grows well in acidic soil, does not like calcareous and wet places.

Resistant to pests and diseases, including powdery mildew, which affects common oak.

The bark and leaves of red oak are traditionally used in medicine - for making infusions and decoctions, also as a homeopathic remedy. These parts of the plant have an anti-inflammatory effect, it is used to treat diarrhea, eczema, gingivitis, varicose veins, liver and spleen diseases. Used wisely, young oak bark improves blood circulation, the body's well-being, and increases immunity. Red oak leaves, bark and young twigs are used to make medicine. The leaves are harvested in mid-May, the twigs and bark - during the sap period. The acorns are dried in a draft and in the shade. Properly stored, oak bark does not lose its healing properties for five years, leaves - for a year.

Sowing. Oak acorns can be planted in autumn, in pots, and left outside without any problems. The main obstacle to good germination is dry soil, as well as excessive moisture. Rodents and other living creatures for whom acorns are a delicacy. In the winter, it is worth covering the acorns with agronet or some other net against rodents.
