Pyramidal oak. Quercus robur f. fastigiata. Seeds. H-40m
A deciduous tree of the beech family, up to 40 m tall, with a trunk up to 2 m in diameter and an interesting pyramidal crown.
.The bark of young shoots is olive-brown, later - silver-gray smooth.
The fruit is an oval acorn 1.5-3.5 cm long, brownish-yellow with longitudinal greenish stripes and a spine at the top.
Sowing: Acorns can be planted both in autumn and early spring in a pot. It is important to maintain a constant moisture level in the soil, and protect the acorns from rodents if they are sown in autumn.
Planting oak: The planting hole is prepared in advance, a month before the planting date. The depth of the pit should not be less than 80 cm. Before planting an oak, a drainage layer consisting of broken bricks and stones should be filled at the bottom of the pit. The excavated soil is mixed with fertilizer based on rotted manure, ash and lime. One part of the mixture is poured into the pit, and the other is left to sprinkle the seedling. After the process is completed, the soil is compacted and then watered.
Oak care: In the first years, the seedling takes root, so it must be carefully looked after and fertilized. Immediately after planting, it is watered abundantly for a week. In autumn and winter, watering is reduced.
Preparation for winter: in some regions, a young plant may freeze slightly. For the winter, it must be covered to protect it from cold and rodent attacks. To do this, cover the tree trunk at the roots with dry leaves and straw.
