Japanese sophora is a medium-tall tree, common in East Asia.
Butterfly-shaped yellowish-white, fragrant flowers, forming clusters 15-25 cm long.

Sophora does not require fertile soil and moisture, it grows better in light sand, and tolerates drought.
Flowering requires long, warm, clear summers, so in the north this tree is widespread only in ornamental gardens.
