Catalpa lilac-leaved. Legume tree. Cigar tree. Seeds
An ornamental tree that quickly grows up to 15 m in height, easily shaped, adaptable to any garden needs.
This tree begins to bloom very quickly - in the third year after sowing, when the height of the tree is only 1 m.
A very ornamental tree. Young leaves are bronze-green, later - dark green, heart-shaped - 8-12 cm long. The leaves appear relatively late and fall off after the first real frosts.
Blooms for about 2 weeks in June or July (depending on early spring). Flowers in inflorescences are whitish-pink with brown or yellowish spots.
Trees grow better in sunny or semi-sunny places, protected from winds, on moderately moist soils, do not tolerate drought well, so seedlings and young plants need to be watered.
It is recommended to protect young plants for the winter in the first year, preferably by covering them.
Sowing:
Soak the seeds in warm water for 12 hours.
Stratification for at least 20 days is recommended, as it increases seed germination.
After stratification, sow the seeds on a moist soil surface. It is preferable to apply a very thin layer of moist sifted soil or vermiculite.
The soil should be constantly moist, but not wet. Light is necessary for germination.
The nursery can be covered with transparent film - it will retain moisture and heat. Be sure to remove it when the seeds begin to germinate.
Germinate at room temperature, in a well-ventilated area, protected from drafts and direct sunlight.
In suitable conditions, it germinates in 1-2 weeks.
