Hornbeam Cardenas Carpinus cordata
Hornbeam Cardenas is a relatively slow-growing, small, in exceptional cases medium-sized tree with an oval crown.
Only in old trees will the crown widen and become rounded.
The bark is smooth at first, later brown-black longitudinal stripes form. In old trees, the bark peels off in small plates. Young branches and young leaves are pubescent.
When the leaves bloom, they are yellow-green, in summer they become medium-green, the hairs at least on the top disappear. The leaves are clearly heart-shaped, which distinguishes the Cardenas hornet from other species.
The flowering of yellow-green flowers is not very noticeable.
A tree that is undemanding to the soil, but an excellent specimen in any garden and park collection.
Hornbeam Cardenas tolerates both dry and wet soil well.
