Green ash. Seeds. Fraxinus pennsylvanica
Green ash. Seeds.
Grows wild in eastern North America, in river valleys, on fertile and moist soils.
10 -15 (25) m high, trunk diameter 0.5-0.7 m. Frost-resistant and less sensitive to drought than other ash trees. Undemanding to soil.
Leaves green, glabrous, only the veins may be slightly hairy. Leaves are tufted, usually from 5-9 leaflets, up to 30 cm long. Flowers green, in drooping panicles. Blooms before leafing out.
Sowing: Everything is relatively simple with ash. Seeds are sown in pots in autumn, and placed in the field, or stratified seeds do well even in the refrigerator in the ground. Humidity and air access are important. Seeds can germinate in the first spring, but sometimes it can take a year for them to germinate.
