Tilia sylvestris, commonly called silver linden or European white linden, is native to Europe and Asia.
Linden is known for its attractive foliage, glossy green above and silvery-white below. The foliage, fluttering in the slightest breeze, displays a play of silver and green leaf colors.
Fragrant pale yellow flowers in drooping clusters appear in late June, early July. When the tree is in bloom, bees often visit it in such numbers that the buzzing can be heard many meters away.
The flowers are followed by small nuts attached to the narrow, bract-like, strap-like wings of the leaves. Nuts ripen in late summer.
Oval, glossy, dark green leaves with sharp tips and serrated edges are densely covered with silvery-white hairs. Autumn coloration is light green to light yellow.
Sowing: To germinate linden seeds, place the seeds in damp sand, where they will be stored until spring at a temperature not exceeding 0 degrees. Please note that linden seeds must remain in this state for at least 5 months. Monitor the humidity, otherwise the seeds will not germinate. Plant them in moist soil in the spring.
